Legislation Changes for Schools

Since October 2008 there has been a statutory obligation to display a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) in a prominent place in buildings occupied by public authorities and institutions providing public services. The applicable public buildings for which this relates had a total useful floor area exceeding 1000m2. However, changes which came into effect in January 2013 to the Energy Performance of Buildings (England and Wales) Regulations 2012 (as amended) has reduced this size threshold to 500m², now meaning schools which previously did not need a DEC may now have a legal obligation to obtain one.
