The Ionising Radiations Regulations (IRR) 2017 came into force on 1 January 2018 and replaced the existing Regulations (IRR99). They are concerned with occupational exposures and the radiation protection of the public.
Employers and employees who work with ionising radiations, including materials that contain naturally occuring radioactivity - such as mineral sands - are required, with very few exceptions, to formally appoint and consult a suitable Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA).
It is the employers responsibility to check that the RPA selected meets the criteria of competence in the HSE Statement on Radiation Protection Advisers and has the relevant experience to make them suitable to provide the advice needed.ย ย That's where we come in.

Radiation Protection Adviser Service in Association with CLEAPSS
We offer schools an RPA Service which fulfils the legal requirement, outlined in Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, on the school/academy as an employer, and includes the following:

Gathering and verifying data (including RPA form 1 detailing what radioactive materials you hold) from the school/academy and passing onto CLEAPSS and the RPA.

Visiting the school/academy on an annual/biennial basis, carrying out an audit of sources and the procedures used for the safe use and storage of radioactive materials.

Reporting results of audit to the school/academy and to the RPA and feedback any specific recommendation from the RPA following the audit.
